Asian Fusion

RYLA Restaurant

RYLA just opened it’s doors in February 2022 and it’s everything we could have dreamed of to replace the location of the dearly missed Laurel Tavern establishment. After 10 years of working under Chef David Lefevre at the famous Manhattan Beach Post, Chef Ray Hayashi has finally opened up a restaurant of his own- featuring a ‘Contemporary California Asian’ inspired menu.

The completely remodeled space transitions from one room into another, offering a variety of different settings and ambience. My favorite is the rear room wrapped with a vision of lemon & cherry blossom trees and exotic cranes on it’s walls. The lighting is dim, offering an intimate mood appropriate for the perfect date night or special evening with friends & family.

The menu is small and selective, but judging by the few dishes I was able to experience that made my mouth water- you most likely can’t go wrong with anything you order. The Hokkaido Milk Bread with a tobiko nori spread whipped with whipped cream and seaweed is an absolute MUST to start your meal. I’m literally still dreaming about it. Please trust me that this is not the time or place to be cutting your carbs - just DO IT. Same goes for the cocktails, treat yourself to one of their phenomenal handcrafted creations.

During my experience I also tried the Pacific Gold Oysters, the Gochujang Glazed Carrots, the 12 Oz NY Strip, and the Tonkotsu Shoyu Ramen. All dishes were undeniably exceptional and I can say from my history and experience of working with Chef Ray on the MB Post Staff for almost 5 years that his time spent behind the scenes has truly paid off. Make sure to go give this new local spot a try if you haven’t already!
